Police recruits must complete training and obtain certification from the
Mississippi Board of Law Enforcement Standards and Training (B.L.E.O.S.T.)
within two years of their date of hire. |

Patrolman I officers must have Mississippi B.L.E.O.S.T. certification or an
out of state equivalent. Patrolman I officers that have an out of state
equivalent, must attend a 3-week refresher training course and obtain
certification from B.L.E.O.S.T.

Patrolman II officers must complete 18-months of service with the department
starting from completion of the FTO program
and pass a written and practical examination. Officers that have prior
full-time experience outside the department are credited one month off the
stipulated 18-months for every full time service year, but credit is limited
to a total of six months. |

Patrol division personnel work 12-hour shifts and work 14 days out of every
28 day cycle. Division personnel are assigned either to day shift
(0600-1800) or night shift (1800-0600). Division personnel normally receive
every other Friday, Saturday and Sunday off. |

Patrol division personnel are normally scheduled to work 84 hours every two
weeks. |

Patrol division personnel receive double-time pay for legal holidays recognized by the city. The maximum benefit is 8 hours per
legal holiday. |

Patrol division personnel receive shift differential for hours worked from
1800-0600. |
 |
The City of Horn Lake currently recognizes 12 paid legal holidays plus any
other day as proclaimed by the Governor of the State of Mississippi and the
Board of Aldermen. |

Probationary time for all employees is one year. |
 |
Employees are provided with medical, dental and vision insurance and no
cost. Dependant coverage can be obtained for additional fees. |
